From Shibuya I took the train back to Shinjuku, and on my way back to the hotel, I passed through four small blocks that are squeezed in between a big department store and the railway tracks. The Japanese name is Shomben Yokocho which translates to Piss Alley. Despite the name, this is really a nice part of town. In these small streets there are a number of very small eateries. The next night, I tried a yakitori joint with seats for less than ten persons. The atmosphere was marvellous, the skewers were really good, and it was dirt cheap. Definitely my best dinner in Japan. |
